Last week I debuted my Newborn Experience video and it’s been so humbling to hear the loving and positive response! Even MEN ARE CRYING over this video! SUCCESS! Ha! So much went into this, and it’s so dear to my heart. If you like behind the scenes goodness, insider knowledge, and sappy sentimental value, read on, my friend!
0:02: The teal Hello sign. Ok, seriously, I’m crying already. I bought this at Target for $3 like 2 YEARS AGO, sat it in my home office, and I would look at it and dream of the day it would hang in my own studio. And there it is!
0:21: Gold picture frame that reads, “Hey Momma, you’re doing a really great job” because Lord knows in the first couple of weeks every mom needs this reminder. I see you momma, and you ARE doing a really great job.
0:23: You Are My Sunshine lyrics. Not only is this a song I have fond memories of as a kid, but this song is extra special to me. When I miscarried Ava and sat in a small prayer room at work waiting for my friend to drive me home, I suddenly felt that I should sing to her. I sing to all my kids, and she was no different. I held the cup of water that she was in, looked at her, and sang(sobbed) the song You Are My Sunshine. (P.S. If you want to read more about my miscarriage journey, keep an eye out on March 30th…)
0:26: The amethyst stone. My work changed drastically after my first miscarriage. I still love cute headbands and modern poses, but after losing a baby, I realized they don’t need my help to be cute and perfect. I have this stone in my studio to symbolize the shift in my work after miscarrying Ava (who was born in February, amethyst is the birthstone for February).
0:41: This was really the first time I met Erin and her sweet baby girl Ellis! Erin was tagged in my model call post by a momma I met a few years ago while she was enduring her own loss. Ellis is Erin’s rainbow baby, it was meant to be! She was the perfect model and sweetest baby!
0:52: Side note, when my husband first watched this and saw me say, “Oh my GOSH!” he said, “Yeah right, you staged that.” NOPE. I honestly didn’t even know video was rolling, and Ellis REALLY WAS that cute.
0:58: Some people have asked who wrote the commentary for this video. In the most humble way possible, the answer is, me! 🙂
1:30: The YAWN SHOT! This is literally my favorite part of the whole video. Baby yawns are the best. <3
1:35: My tattoo. <3 I always knew I wanted a “photography” tattoo, but didn’t want a “photography tattoo,” know what I’m sayin’? I didn’t want anything obvious or something I would think is cheesy in 20 years. When I first moved into my studio, I asked my pastor Travis (your boy T. FINKE!) to come and pray over my space. He came in, and asked if I used studio lights. I said, “No, I’ve always used natural light.” We chatted for a while, and he prayed over the space for me. In his prayer he said, “God, I’m so thankful that Chelsey only uses the light YOU provide.” OKAY BAWLING RIGHT?! I had literally never made that connection and I was IN LOVE with it. So, I went back to when God created light, Genesis 1:3, “And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.” You can’t have a photo without light, folks! The sun and handwriting design is by my bestie Becky, who has literally been my biggest fan since 2009 when I started my business while sitting in design class.
2:45: No, Ellis sucking her thumb was not staged! It was so stinkin’ adorable!
2:54: I love, love, love that the video ends on the momma, and not on me. This job is not about me or my photos. It’s about showcasing these miracles and loving and caring for these new mommas. I joke that my sessions often times turn into more of therapy sessions than photo sessions, but it’s true!
If you enjoyed this post then we are probably friends. If we aren’t friends and you enjoyed this post, let’s grab a cupcake sometime and change that, mmk?
Love & hugs,
